Info Facts
Drug addiction is a treatable disorder. Through treatment that is tailored to individual needs, patients can learn to control their condition and live normal, productive lives. Like people with diabetes or heart disease, people in treatment for drug addiction learn behavioral changes and often take medications as part of their treatment regimen. *

Aftercare

The Young Adults Program also offers an extended care option for youth who need extra support and encouragement in the first few months of recovery. Extended care is also offer to young people because societal and peer pressure is often too much to handle and it is easier just to give in and relapse. Before a young person leaves the treatment program he/she creates an aftercare plan and also has counseling sessions about relapse prevention, triggers and early recovery strategies.

Young people are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings while in treatment as well as after they graduate. For many recovering addicts and alcoholics 12-step programs offer a support system unequaled in the real world environment. Some young people are afraid to go back into the old environment in which they were living so our specialists work with them to find more suitable living conditions. Living environments such as sober livings and halfway houses are often ideal for people who need some type of accountability and help with daily living.

Young people who have been involved in intensive inpatient treatment or long-term care are also encouraged to enroll in outpatient aftercare to maintain a connection to a recovery community. Many times young people will bond with each other in treatment, and those who are serious about sobriety are supported in staying in contact with each other.

Clients who do not want to be involved in the 12-step fellowship programs can also find support through individual counseling and other alternative paths. Young people have a unique chance to find recovery early and can share and learn from each other. Our extended care program also suggests that alums come back to our facilities to pass the message on to others who are still in treatment.

The Young Adults Program at Gulf Coast Recovery is just one more way that we make sure there is a path that fits every need. Taking into consideration the issues unique to young adults helps us to design effective treatment programs. Our extended care agenda helps to make young adults more confident about continuing sobriety after treatment.
